Over the past few years we have been doing our best the regenerate the forest in our land in Sri Lanka. Our protection and conservation efforts can be measured in various abstract ways. However, one sign that we hadn’t considered has recently reared its head (and teeth!). We know that we are definitely doing something right by the sudden arrival of monkeys to both our forest and farming area. Where we previously grew fruits for years without any hassle, the pesky buggers have re-appeared from neighbouring jungles and are feasting on our papayas and other sweet fruit.

Seatbelts Arrive in Ceylon!
Visitors to the Sri Lanka are frequently astounded by some of the driving manoeuvres they witness and the apparent lack of rules on the road. I myself have frequently wondered why, for a nation that rarely rushes for anything, is driving done in such a hurried fashion? However, what often surprises people most is not just the way people here drive, but how it is extremely rare to see drivers (or passengers for that matter) wearing seatbelts. (more…)
Phnom Penh
Perhaps we are becoming accustomed to these manic cities of South East Asia, but we did not struggle with the hecticness of Phnom Penh that so many had told us about.’ Although the streets continue in the theme of Bangkok, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City with huge amounts of traffic, we were pleased to find that generally the traffic stopped when the light was red – a phenomenon that had been less evident in Vietnam! Siem Reap and the Temples of Angkor
The fact that Ben’came with me for a full 2′days of walking around temples is testament in itself to the fact that they are rather spectacular and this even though one of the days began at 4.30!
We arrived in Siem Reap having spent the previous few weeks doing a lot of traveling and moving around and so before we had even got here we had decided that we would spend 4 nights here in order to have some chill out time as well as time to explore.’ It turns out that that was a very sensible decision as Siem Reap is a very pleasant town to spend some time.’ It is much calmer than Phnom Penh and the people are extremely friendly. Kep and Kampot
Hidden away in the south eastern corner of Cambodia are these two coastal getaways.’ Unique and definitely a little rough around the edges – though it is’in this that lies their charm.’ (more…)
What to eat in Singapore in 24 hours?
In my opinion Singapore is one of the finest place to eat in the world – in terms of good food per square footage I would say it is totally unbeatable.

Saigon and the Mekong Delta
As we walked through Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC), or Saigon as the locals still’determinately call it, we realised that it is a very different city to Hanoi.’ While the traffic remains as insane the feel of the city and the set up for tourists is very different.

Special Offers Vietnam!
Sorry to keep harping on about low fares, but we have just had some even better specials given to us by Singapore Airlines. These allow you to fly in or out of Siem Reap, Ho Chi Minh, Danang (Hoi An) or Hanoi, so are incredibly flexible. Obviously Singapore Airline are second to none in terms of the quality of service they offer too. The fare part is coming out at including tax, around £350 each.
They have meant that we can take at least √Ǭ¨√Ǭ£100 per person off all our advertised website prices at the moment and in some cases up to √Ǭ¨√Ǭ£300 each! There really has never been a better value time to visit Vietnam and/or Cambodia. Hotels also have some fantastic offers and in combination we can do some amazing deals! The Nam Hai is a case in point – Vietnam’s best hotel is doing a stay 2 get 1 free offer from now until April 2010. We’ll pass you the savings directly.
You will have to hurry though – the Singapore offer ends on the 30th June and already the limited seats released for this price seem to be going fast.
Nha Trang
Arriving in Nha Trang was quite a strange experience as it is so different from all the places we have visited so far in Vietnam.’ It is a real ‘holiday’ destination (for Vietnamese as well as westerners) and has a Vietnamese feeling of a spanish holiday resort!’ If you want peace and quiet then this is not the place for you, but we had a lot of fun there nonetheless.
Hoi An
Hoi An is a charming town in central Vietnam and is a fantastic place to spend a few days. It one of three UNESCO world heritage sites in central Vietnama and as such oozes history. You do not even need to set foot inside a museum to soak up the past that has made the town as it is. The different influences from the French to the Chinese is evident in the architecture and it is easy to imagine how it used to hustle and bustle as a trading port.
