Monkey Business

30 June 2009 by

Over the past few years we have been doing our best the regenerate the forest in our land in Sri Lanka. Our protection and conservation efforts can be measured in various abstract ways. However, one sign that we hadn’t considered has recently reared its head (and teeth!). We know that we are definitely doing something right by the sudden arrival of monkeys to both our forest and farming area. Where we previously grew fruits for years without any hassle, the pesky buggers have re-appeared from neighbouring jungles and are feasting on our papayas and other sweet fruit.

Seatbelts Arrive in Ceylon!

Visitors to the Sri Lanka are frequently astounded by some of the driving manoeuvres they witness and the apparent lack of rules on the road. I myself have frequently wondered why, for a nation that rarely rushes for anything, is driving done in such a hurried fashion? However, what often surprises people most is not just the way people here drive, but how it is extremely rare to see drivers (or passengers for that matter) wearing seatbelts. (more…)

What to eat in Singapore in 24 hours?

18 June 2009 by

In my opinion Singapore is one of the finest place to eat in the world – in terms of good food per square footage I would say it is totally unbeatable.

Special Offers Vietnam!

17 June 2009 by

Sorry to keep harping on about low fares, but we have just had some even better specials given to us by Singapore Airlines. These allow you to fly in or out of Siem Reap, Ho Chi Minh, Danang (Hoi An) or Hanoi, so are incredibly flexible. Obviously Singapore Airline are second to none in terms of the quality of service they offer too. The fare part is coming out at including tax, around £350 each.

They have meant that we can take at least √Ǭ¨√Ǭ£100 per person off all our advertised website prices at the moment and in some cases up to √Ǭ¨√Ǭ£300 each! There really has never been a better value time to visit Vietnam and/or Cambodia. Hotels also have some fantastic offers and in combination we can do some amazing deals! The Nam Hai is a case in point – Vietnam’s best hotel is doing a stay 2 get 1 free offer from now until April 2010. We’ll pass you the savings directly.

You will have to hurry though – the Singapore offer ends on the 30th June and already the limited seats released for this price seem to be going fast.

This year we have had some fantastic special offers from The Maldives.’ The combination of a world’ recession, a strong dollar and an oversupply of top end hotels meant the yearly price increases were sharply reversed.’ Especially at the higher end of the market, there has never been a better time to visit. Eco Holidays in The Maldives

2 June 2009 by

A few years ago I was asked by a certain well known ‘responsible’ travel company to provide suggestions for ‘responsible’ product in the Maldives that we could market through their site. It was totally impossible.

Probably the best beer in the world….

29 May 2009 by

For years intrepid backpackers (our co-founder Tom Armstrong among them) have raved about the quality of Beer Lao, the locally brewed beer served throughout Laos but rarely found elsewhere. More recently people on shorter holidays to Laos have discovered for themselves the fine beer, along with the wonderful laid back hospitality of the country.

Cat Ba Island

28 May 2009 by

Great post from harry and Ben in Vietnam there – tales of random street food from Asia always makes me crazy with jealousy!
We are hearing great things from our clients about Cat Ba. It’s a great way to see Halong Bay away from the busy junk boat routes – and with trekking in the jungle as well as a beach you can’t really go far wrong!’ We use the excellent Cat Ba Sunrise Hotel.
