Pro Surfing event returns to Sri Lanka’s Arugam Bay in August/September 2011

Sri Lanka’s eastern coastal resort Arugam Bay plays host for the second consecutive year, to the ‘SriLankan Pro Surf 2011’ – one of the world’s top-rated surfing events, as part of SriLankan Airlines’ multi-pronged strategy to position the island as one of the world’s most sought after travel and sporting destinations, the airline said.

With two principal events – the LongBoard Men’s Championship Event and the ShortBoard Women’s World Qualifying Series Event – the ‘SriLankan Airlines Pro 2011’ tournament will attract top stars of the surfing world to Arugam Bay from 30th August to 4th September, with over a 100 competitors from around the world. Sri Lanka’s east coast declared safe

The British Foreign Office (FCO) has further relaxed it’s travel advice with regards to travel in Sri Lanka’s fascinating eastern provinces. This puts the fabulous beaches at Pasikudah and Kalkudah back on the travel map. Vibrant towns such as Amparai and Batticaloa are also officially considered safe again.

East Coast Beaches back on the menu soon?

With war finally a thing of the past in Sri Lanka, great excitement and interest is being expressed towards areas which were previously deemed ‘off-limits’ by various travel advisories. It is surely a matter of time before the British Foreign Office revises it’s stance on travelling to certain areas of the island.
