Songsaa Island Resort – the most romantic place in Cambodia

14 July 2011 by

A new island resort and the first of its kind in Cambodia is set to be opening soon, offering holidaymakers a new and luxurious beach experience. Song-Saa Private Island is a super exclusive resort built in the pristine Koh Rong archipelago covering two islands connected by a footbridge and surrounded by a marine reserve.

The name ‘Song saa’ itself means ‘lovers’ in Khmer, as the two islands Koh Bong and Koh Oun fondly refer to the pet names that Cambodian couples give each other: ‘Koh meaning island, ‘Bong’ meaning boyfriend (literally ‘older one’) and ‘Oun meaning girlfriend (literally ‘little one’). The name of the resort thus clearly places itself as one of Cambodia’s best destinations for honeymooners and couples alike. (more…)

The hidden Gem of Cambodia’s North East

16 November 2010 by

Following on from a recent article in the travel section of the Guardian newspaper, What’s New in Cambodia?, we at Experience Travel have produced a new itinerary entitled Cambodia’s North East, a tour which offers the more adventurous traveller a fantastic opportunity to explore this hidden gem.

Close to the Laos border, Ratanakiri is a beautifully remote and untouched region of South East Asia, a million miles from the tourists at Angkor Wat and the noise and pollution of Bangkok.

The tour starts with a couple of days touring the spectacular Angkor temples. From there you get completely off the tourist trail, visiting pre-Angkorian ruins in Kampong Thom and Kampong Cham, taking a boat trip to spot Irrawaddy dolphins in the Mekong River, before spending a few nights in the remote market town of Ban Lung in the forests of Ratanakiri. Rick Stein’s Far Eastern Odyssey – a review:

25 August 2009 by

Rick Stein did us a massive favour by doing a programme that focused, almost exclusively, on the area that we specialise in. Apart from Laos, all our bases were covered – Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Cambodia and of course, Thailand. A big ‘thank you’ to Rick then, as we saw a definite increase in inquiries from the sort of people keen to do something a little different and sample the true flavours of the region – something which we can deliver!

I also think we are well placed to review the show and watched it with great interest. Not only do we know the countries very well, but we are all fairly greedy and get thoroughly over-excited by the thought of South East Asian food. We also know a few of the characters featured in the programme and all of the hotels featured.

Asia Wishlist – No. 1 Knai Bang Chatt

17 August 2009 by

Stuck in my office in Wandsworth putting together tours for people in Vietnam is a decent way to make a living. My thoughts do wander sometimes though, to the places I am working on, and where i would like to go next.
Knai Bang Chatt
With 2 small children, much of this is purely a pipedream, but number 1 on the list has to be Kep in Cambodia and Knai Bang Chatt in particular.

My colleague, who visited recently, came back raving about the laid back charms of Kep, the delicious buckets of Kampot Pepper Crab available in the markets at a dollar a throw, the hike up Bokor mountain to see the ethereal abandoned hilltop colonial resort up there and dreamy boat trips out to empty paradise islands. Having loved the rest of Cambodia, but missed Kep on previous visits, I am most keen to get back.

He also said that Knai Bang Chatt was the best hotel he had ever stayed in. That would all depend on what you’re looking for, but personally, the converted villas sound fantastic, and the thought of the food – a cunning French and Khmer fusion, too good to be true. (more…)

Phnom Penh

30 June 2009 by

Perhaps we are becoming accustomed to these manic cities of South East Asia, but we did not struggle with the hecticness of Phnom Penh that so many had told us about.’ Although the streets continue in the theme of Bangkok, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City with huge amounts of traffic, we were pleased to find that generally the traffic stopped when the light was red – a phenomenon that had been less evident in Vietnam! Siem Reap and the Temples of Angkor

29 June 2009 by

The fact that Ben’came with me for a full 2′days of walking around temples is testament in itself to the fact that they are rather spectacular and this even though one of the days began at 4.30!

We arrived in Siem Reap having spent the previous few weeks doing a lot of traveling and moving around and so before we had even got here we had decided that we would spend 4 nights here in order to have some chill out time as well as time to explore.’ It turns out that that was a very sensible decision as Siem Reap is a very pleasant town to spend some time.’ It is much calmer than Phnom Penh and the people are extremely friendly. Special Offers Vietnam!

17 June 2009 by

Sorry to keep harping on about low fares, but we have just had some even better specials given to us by Singapore Airlines. These allow you to fly in or out of Siem Reap, Ho Chi Minh, Danang (Hoi An) or Hanoi, so are incredibly flexible. Obviously Singapore Airline are second to none in terms of the quality of service they offer too. The fare part is coming out at including tax, around £350 each.

They have meant that we can take at least √Ǭ¨√Ǭ£100 per person off all our advertised website prices at the moment and in some cases up to √Ǭ¨√Ǭ£300 each! There really has never been a better value time to visit Vietnam and/or Cambodia. Hotels also have some fantastic offers and in combination we can do some amazing deals! The Nam Hai is a case in point – Vietnam’s best hotel is doing a stay 2 get 1 free offer from now until April 2010. We’ll pass you the savings directly.

You will have to hurry though – the Singapore offer ends on the 30th June and already the limited seats released for this price seem to be going fast.

Cambodia Documentary

Fantastic documentary on the temples of Angkor. Please ignore the adverts for our (expensive) competition! (By that we mean the travel company and not the lady boy introduction agency… )
