Echoes of a lost decade of Khmer rock n roll

Khmer/American psychedelic rock n roll group Dengue Fever last week announced that they’ll be touring to Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam in November of this year.

Dengue Fever are a unique ensemble formed of 5 musicians: Khmer singer Chhom Nimol, who left Cambodia to live in the USA, brothers Ethan and  Zac Holtzman, Senon Williams, Paul Smith  and David Ralicke. Their style is a groovy and upbeat combination of haunting lyrics in Khmer language with upbeat psychedelic rock and jazz sounds.

Cambodian snake wedding spells prosperity for villagers

Earlier this month villagers in Cambodia’s central Kandal province celebrated the wedding of two pythons in an unusual ceremony that saw large female python Chamroeun married to her smaller mate, male python Ar Krong Pich. The nuptials were conducted in Svay Ralum commune, Sa’ang district and were witnessed by hundreds of villagers who had flocked to attend the wedding. Siem Reap and the Temples of Angkor

The fact that Ben’came with me for a full 2′days of walking around temples is testament in itself to the fact that they are rather spectacular and this even though one of the days began at 4.30!

We arrived in Siem Reap having spent the previous few weeks doing a lot of traveling and moving around and so before we had even got here we had decided that we would spend 4 nights here in order to have some chill out time as well as time to explore.’ It turns out that that was a very sensible decision as Siem Reap is a very pleasant town to spend some time.’ It is much calmer than Phnom Penh and the people are extremely friendly.
